Advising for HP Students

Academic advising is important so that students can plan their curriculum and get the most out of their HP experience. Completion of the Honors Program requires fifteen (15) credit hours of HP coursework. Students may also achieve Distinction in an optional Honors Program Pathway in either Global Engagement, Research, or Service.

Academic advisors in your major are best equipped to help you integrate Honors Program courses into your program of study. Progress in the Honors Program can be monitored in DegreeWorks. For any modifications required to your HP degree audit, reach out to Associate Director Dr. Amy D'Unger. Use this online form to request authorization of PURA research course credit OR if you are a transfer student who conducted research at your previous institution. If you have study abroad credit that you'd like considered for Honors Program inclusion, you can follow the directions on the website. Once approved, your degree audit will be updated.

Students who have advising questions related to the Honors Program can schedule an appointment in AdvisorLink, email Dr. D'Unger, call Dr. D'Unger (404.385.7533) or message her on Teams, or drop by room 007 in the Honors Program Office Suite, Eighth Street West Apartments.

GRADUATION CHECKLIST

Make sure the Honors Program module appears in your Degreeworks degree audit. It should look something like this example below and will be near the bottom of your audit, below your degree requirements and above any declared minor(s). If it does not appear, please email the Honors Program immediately.

Complete your online application for graduation (OAG) by the required deadline. If you are a summer graduate who plans to walk early in the spring graduation ceremony, please alert the Honors Program so that we can do your audit early and prepare any graduation regalia.
If you have conducted undergraduate research in the PURA program OR are a transfer student who conducted research at your previous institution, please complete this form to have your research applied towards HP completion. Students who have conducted independent undergraduate research with a faculty mentor while at Georgia Tech (usually with the course number 2699 or 4699) do NOT need to use this form. Credit will be applied automatically.
If you have a study abroad class that may be eligible to apply to HP requirements, please submit it for approval. Instructions are on the Global Engagement Pathway page.
After the OAG and class registration deadlines has passed for your graduating semester (usually late August for fall, mid-January for spring, and late May for summer–refer to the registrar's calendar), the Honors Program will conduct an audit.
All HP classes listed in the module in Degreeworks will be reviewed. In addition, the entire curriculum will be reviewed to make sure no classes are missing in the audit.
Students will be notified whether they have achieved the designation of Participation in the Honors Program, Completion of the Honors Program (with or without distinction in a pathway), or neither of those. In addition, a note of this confirmation will be visible in Degreeworks, at the bottom of the audit.
Students who have achieved Participation or Completion will be invited to pick up their swag and regalia several weeks before graduation.
