I joined HP because I wanted to be in a community of motivated peers with diverse interests. As an out-of-state student I was hoping that joining HP would help me find other out-of-state students who didn't have any connections coming into Tech, and it turned out great for me. Many of the friends I made in HP my first year are from all over the U.S. and I am still very close with many of them.

I have taken advantage of many HP sponsored events such as visiting the Atlanta botanical gardens, Georgia Aquarium, the zoo, the World of Coke, going to an ATL United game, and participating in guided bike tours of the city. These HP events are a great way to explore the city, meet new people, and have a fun time. I think my favorite event I've done was the civil rights bike tour because I got to learn more about the history of the city and it was fun to ride around in a big group. Additionally, I have also taken HP classes and done the research pathway. One really interesting HP class I took was my ENGL 1102 class, which was focused on mystery and sci-fi.

At Georgia Tech, I am involved in undergraduate research, Tau Beta Pi (engineering honors society), Trailblazers (club that does outdoor service and recreation), BMES, and intramural sports. Participating in activities related to both my academic interests like research as well as fun activities like intramural sports helps me keep a good work-life balance and is a great way to meet new people.

Now that HP is in Eight Street Apartments, you can live in an apartment as a first year student! Wow, you get to skip communal bathrooms! On a more serious note, I encourage incoming students to apply to HP for the community. Almost everyone in HP is driven and passionate about their interests, which I think is really cool. Surrounding myself with people who are interested in learning and participating in a wide range of hobbies has encouraged me to pursue my interests with the same intensity.

The Honors Program at Georgia Tech offers a more challenging and intellectually stimulating curriculum. I enjoy academic challenges and want to push myself further, this program can provide me with a more enriched educational experience. Additionally, being part of the Honors Program can provide me with access to a strong network of alumni, faculty, and industry professionals. Consequently, I could also have opportunities to attend events, workshops, and seminars, enabling me to build connections and receive mentorship from experts in various fields.

Joining the Honors Program means you will be surrounded by like-minded students who are passionate about learning and have a strong academic drive. This community can foster meaningful relationships, intellectual discussions, and collaborations that can enhance your college experience. Additionally, Georgia Tech is renowned for its research programs, and the Honors Program can provide you with unique research opportunities. You may have the chance to work closely with faculty members on cutting-edge research projects, gaining valuable hands-on experience and potentially contributing to groundbreaking discoveries.

Since starting at Georgia Tech and joining HP, I have been involved in the Honors Leadership Council, taken HP classes in CS, and been involved with the VIP program.  I've also been involved in M@CC (Minorities @ College of Computing), NSBE, the Student Alumni Association, Caribsa, and the Challenge Program.

You should join the Honors Program to make friends, to study in the honors lounge, and to go on fun trips around Atlanta!
