Honors Program Classes

The Honors Program specially arranges a menu of 30 - 40 Honors Program classes offered each fall and spring semester (approximately 80 per year).  Several Honors Program classes are offered each summer in the Georgia Tech Oxford Summer Study Abroad Program. 

Classes are typically small, with high levels of student and faculty engagement, and incorporate one or more active-learning elements: seminar-style class discussions, class presentations, team problem-solving, team projects, or service-learning opportunities on the Georgia Tech campus or in the Atlanta community. 

Many Honors Program classes, including some “core” classes (English, lab science), are interdisciplinary in scope. Honors Program classes are designed for students who are highly motivated to pursue their curiosity, creativity, and connection with communities, often crossing disciplinary boundaries and proceeding from theory to practical application.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Students extend their learning in after-class conversations, study groups, and extra-curricular activities, and at Honors Program luncheons, activities, and events with fellow Honors Program students, staff, and faculty. Often, Honors Program students network to pursue research or business start-up projects growing out of their shared learning experiences. Opportunities for learning beyond the classroom are enhanced by:

• Shared living space for first-year, transfer, and upper-year Honors Program students, with available study lounges in Eighth Street East and South, as well as the Honors Program Office Suite in Eighth Street West, complete with study area, digital screen, and a practice piano.
• Honors Leadership Council (HLC) events and activities, funded by the Honors Program Fee and planned, coordinated, and led by upper-level Honors Program students who have been selected (by current HLC members) for HLC membership.
• Honors Program Challenge Fund Awards, funded by the Honors Program Fee and awarded by Honors Program staff to Honors Program students who submit proposals for service-oriented experiences, attendance at academic or leadership conferences, and or innovative projects of the students’ own design.  Four projects are funded for up to $500 each fall and spring semester.
• The Honors Program Outstanding Student Award is given to one graduating senior who best exemplifies excellence in academic achievement, leadership, creative endeavors (of any kind), and personal integrity.
